Nr.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs presents its compliments to the Royal Netherlands Embassy and has the honour, with reference to the Embassy's Note No. 3841 of 9 June 1982, to confirm that the Government of New Zealand shares the understanding of the Government of the Netherlands that the 1898 Treaty between the United Kingdom and the Kingdom of the Netherlands for the mutual surrender of fugitive criminals, which created certain rights and obligations for New Zealand at a time when it was a territory under the sovereign jurisdiction of the United Kingdom, has continued without interruption to be binding upon New Zealand and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Royal Netherlands Embassy the assurances of its highest consideration.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wellington.

9 June 1982
